New home PC or iMac?
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:18:58 AM »
Guys,

My family have been complaining about the performance of my aging (5 Years old) Dell XP home PC for quite a few months now.  My eldest daughter is doing Graphics at University and has a MAC book with all the software.  So the question is Windows or MAC OS?  After deliberating for quite a while I decided to bite the bullet and go for an iMac (Intel i5) as our new home PC.  The reasons being is that I already have Microsoft Office for MAC OS and some Adobe graphic applications.  I also decided to dual boot the iMac and install Windows 7 via  'Boot Camp' which was very easy to install.

The performance is electrifying and the user experience on MAC OS (Once you get used it) is in my opinion much better than Windows 7?  Even my wife says MAC OS is easier to use and that is saying something ;D

It takes less than a minute to change between MAC OS and Windows 7 and I now have the best of both Worlds and can use any application.

As long as the users are happy... that's the important piece.

There are a few PCs in my house and they usually get handed down from user to user, with myself getting the latest and greatest hardware :)

I've been dual-booting between Ubuntu Linux and Windows 7 for quite sometime now... I really enjoy playing around with Ubuntu.

I've seen recently how the virus writers are now targeting MacOS since it's made some good market penetration in recent years.

Thanks for sharing!

Flinstone,

still happy with your iMAC? was it your last Apple product or is your house now full of I Devices.

On the downside I am very sceptic about apple products these days especially when it comes to security. I think apple is the new dictator in the industry like it was Microsoft in the 90s.
Apple knows a lot of their users, a littlebit too much in my opinion.
And the licensing agreement is written by the devils advocate.

On the Upside is that Apple put the useability in the focus so that a 90. years old grandma can use an iPad.

Cheers
Itīs always the networks fault!

Dominik,

I am very happy with my iMac.

As far as security on the iMac goes one of their recent updates includes Apple sandbox.  Security in the iCloud is another question?

I prefer a Windows PC, but have been thinking about trying a MAC for sometime now. But like a previous reply, I am now a bit suspicious of Apple and the way they sort of control users. Better performance may change my mind though!!
