Question About Avaya Base Technical Support Service
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:08:36 AM »
sorry if this question doesn't belong to this forum, but maybe you could guide me to the right place. Here's our situation: We have an Avaya CS1000 and recently we upgrade most of our TDM licenses to IP License and migrate to IP Phone (using Avaya 1210,1220, and 1230). The vendor who made this migration is now telling us that our "Pass Base Technical Support Service" has expire and we need to renew this contract with Avaya in order to buy new IP Licenses and receive support in case we need it. My question is, do we need this technical support service agreement even for buy new license? is that true?

Thanks and best regards,

I recall the nightmare with PASS when it was announced.

In short Avaya (formerly Nortel) partners were charging customers for support but weren't passing any of that money back to the manufacturer (Avaya/Nortel), so Avaya introduced PASS in order to get their fair share of the dollars. Unfortunately the resellers decided to just pass this cost directly (in addition to) the regular maintenance contracts.

I'm not sure you need PASS to purchase additional licenses, but you do need PASS to perform any upgrades.
