2004/1120/1140 and DHCP

Hi,

I have a question on how the Nortel/Avaya IP phones handle DHCP.

We currently only have one DHCP server on the LAN and from resilience point of view that's pretty dire.  Our IT systems team are looking at installing hardware DHCP appliances.

All my phones use DHCP to deliver VLAN and S1 and S2 addressing.

If the DHCP server does down for whatever reason how to the handsets handle this? Are they ok until the lease runs out? or do they check periodically with the DHCP service. ? PCs seem to be ok for 20mins after a DHCP outage regardless if the lease is 180 days.

As an Emergency service I need to make sure that the phones are always up.

Hi Craig B and welcome to the forum,

I believe the IP Phone will stay up working ok until its DHCP lease runs out or the IP Phone is reset?
