XFP to Copper 10Gig?
« on: September 19, 2014, 06:31:55 PM »
Does anyone know of an XFP plug-in module that can plug in to a 10Gig copper NIC on a server?  I have a ERS 5632 with the 8x 10Gig XFP ports, but the server accidentally came with copper 10Gig ports and not the fiber we ordered.

Thanks!

There are several 10gig copper XFP modules, but none in the Avaya pricebook.  As for specifying which ones are explicitly compatible with a 5600, I can't tell you.

I'm assuming you want 10GBASE-TX.

Google for product ID OAW-XFP-TX for an Alcatel compatible gbic.  Again, I haven't tested it on 5600s, so I can't attest to its compatibility.

In theory if it is compatible with an XFP port it should work on an ERS 5600.  Thanks for that information.  I'll see if I can track one down to try at least to see if it works.

Could you use SFP+ instead of XFP?
If so, you may consider solution like

No.  ERS5600s do not support SFP+.  Only SFP and XFP.

Correct.  The ERS 5632 is 24 ports SFP and 8 port XFP's.  No SFP+'s as the 5600's were built before there was such a thing as SFP+.

Were you able to command one and test it ? They say 100m in the description which is pretty suprising compared to 15m max for the SFP+ copper...

I'm interested as well to find a copper XFP adapter.

No, not yet.  Maybe Santa will bring me one to try out in 2015.
