VRRP and Transparent UNI on SPBM
« on: June 20, 2014, 04:20:53 PM »
Hi,

I'm currently installing a new setup for our datacentres based on SPBM. In this setup I wanted to use T-UNI to connect the core switches of the 3 datacentres. In the different locations we have routers with VRRP and systems providing services etc like loadbalancers. These services are spread over datacentres and I really need to have VRRP to work between the datacentres.

Today I did some tests with 2 routers located in 2 datacentres and it looks like they are not able to see each others VRRP packets, which results in dual master / broken setup etc.

Does a transparent UNI indeed filter all multicast traffic needed for VRRP?
Does it work when I use multiple switched UNI's ?

We use VSP7000 units with software version 10.3.1.

Thanks a lot,
Jan Hugo Prins

I don't think you have enough information in here, but the VLAN's that your routers sit on, are they known by the SPB network?   Also VRRP is just like a routing protocol in terms of updates, so as long as you have connectivity it should work, but you may need layer to VSN's between them.

Without more information I cant really help much more.

Hi,

how are connected your two nodes ?
have you associated VRRP vlan with the same i-sid ? same VRID ?

In general T-UNI works like a transparent cable.
Assuming your 2 core switches are both connected to a port on your VSP7k SPB switches that have both the same T-UNi i-sid configured all VRRP packets will be forwarded transparent between the two T-Uni ports without any problems.
It´s always the networks fault!
