vlan id for static ip address on vm windows server 2012
« on: January 30, 2015, 11:46:07 PM »
I am running a nortel 5520 with a q1000 centry link router for the internet and wireless dchp devices.

I have a windows server 2012 r2 running hyper v virtual machine (vm) connected directly to nortel 5520..

I need to make a static ip address for the vm.

What I have read I cant make a normal static ip address I need to use vlan id and id packets. I know how to set this up in windows server it appears to be an easy switch.

But i dont know how to set it up on the nortel.

I am a newbie so any help is welcome. Or if someone has a better way let me know.

Hi Rob,

maybe this helps:

# CLI:
conf t
ip routing
interface vlan xx
ip address A.B.C.D E.E.E.E
exit
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 F.G.H.I J
end

Agenda:
A.B.C.D = IP-Address for your Vlan-Subnet
E.E.E.E = Subnetmask
xx = Vlan ID that is assigned to your access-port of vm
F.G.H.I 0 next hop
J = Metric

Maybe it make sense to add a default/static route pointing to your router

Good luck

Thanks I will give it a try but I may need more of an explanation before I am done. I follow what you said just enought to break something I feel. Lol

Vlan identifier = 2
Static ip I want is 192.168.0.128
Dns/gateway = 192.168.0.1

It's also depend how you connect your hypervisor to 5520
- How many physical link to 5520?
- Link was tagged or untagged?
- Which NIC does the VM was being "attached" to?
- Who provide routing?
