vIST in Avaya 7024 SPBM Cloud running 10.4.1
« on: October 06, 2016, 03:44:26 PM »

I'm currently reading NN48500-617_v3_4_1_Shortest_Path_Bridging_TCG.pdf from VSP7000_10_4_Doc_Collection_13_20160721 and I'm a little bit confused. The main question I would like to have an answer to is: Can I use vIST on a SPBM cloud with only VSP7024 switches running version 10.4.1.

I have 3 location. In 2 locations I have 1 VSP7024 and in the 3rd location I have 2 VSP7024 switches. They are currently connected in a square, and when I'm finished upgrading and modifying the configuration I will have them in a full mesh.

At the location where I have 2 VSP7024 nodes I would like to be able to use vIST and connect the top of rack ERS500 stacks at that location using SMLT to the VSP7024 nodes.

Is this design possible?

If possible, what are the best migration steps to get to this configuration, considering the full mesh topology I hope to achieve. Can this configuration be reached without shutting down SPBM / ISIS somewher along the line?

If the vIST config is not possible, what are the options to use SMLT from the top of rack ERS5500 stacks to the 2 VSP7024 nodes?

I do not believe the VSP 7024 supports vIST. They will support SMLT but in my experience it was unstable. I ended up removing IST/SMLT from all my VSP 7024s and just use them with SPB only. I suggest upgrading your top of rack switches to 4900 or 5900 series switches witch support SPB.

Hi folks,

VSP7024 are unable to run vIST, which is based on SBPM. In SPBM-Mode the VSP7024 are only able to act in L2-only. In Non-SPBM-Mode the VSP7024 are able to do L3 with classic IST, SMLT. I strongly would not recommend to build an Switchcluster with VST7024 in L3. I had several issues with BOSS-Code, which runs on the VSP-7024 - normally this box should be renamed to ERS-7024.
For small Switchclusters I'd recommend you the 24Port-Licensend version of VSP7254, here you are able to use 24x RJ45 or SFP+ and 4x QSFP+. The VSP7200 are run on VOSS-Code, which gave you the full portfolio of Avaya Fabric Connect functionality.

Good luck
