URGENT HELP: IGMP configuration for two IPTV networks
« on: May 23, 2018, 04:59:03 PM »
We have Avaya VSP8000 two core switches running on vIST cluster. All the edge swithes (ERS4000) are connected to both core switches under SMLT load balancing.
We have an IPTV network running currently on single VLAN on below config

Core 1:
* IP pim enabled globally
* IPTV VLAN ID 100
* IPTV interface ip 192.168.100.1
*IPTV VLAN:
interface Vlan 100
ip address 192.168.100.1 255.255.252.0 5
ip pim enable
ip rsmlt
ip rsmlt holdup-timer 9999
exit
ip pim static-rp
ip pim static-rp 239.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 192.168.100.1
ip pim static-rp 239.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 192.168.100.2

ip rsmlt peer-address 192.168.100.2 64:6a:52:aa:xx:xx 25
ip rsmlt edge-support

Core 2:
*IP pim enabled globally
* IPTV VLAN ID 100
* IPTV interface ip 192.168.100.2
*IPTV VLAN:
interface Vlan 100
ip address 192.168.100.2 255.255.252.0 5
ip pim enable
ip igmp immediate-leave
ip rsmlt
ip rsmlt holdup-timer 9999
exit
ip pim static-rp
ip pim static-rp 239.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 192.168.100.1
ip pim static-rp 239.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 192.168.100.2

ip rsmlt peer-address 192.168.100.1 64:6a:52:aa:xx:xx 25
ip rsmlt edge-support

Edge Switches:
interface vlan 100
ip igmp snooping
ip igmp proxy
exit

=====================
Now my question is, we got IPTV channels from ISP and I can stream IPTV channels through VLC player from ISP when directly connecting my PC to ISP router. I am facing challenges to integrate these ISP channels to our existing IPTV server as when we connect this ISP link to our IPTV VLAN, we can not stream their channels. Please advise how to proceed with configuration suggestions

Appreciate swift solution and thanks in advance

Regards
Mohamed

Hi Mohamed

just an question regarding your Multicast design.

Why not using the charm and beauty of easy Multicast-Routing with SPB instead of that crappy PIM stuff?

IS-IS will automatically assign an unique I-SID above 16.000.000 for each MC stream and will take care about the routing.

Hello Mat,
That is really awesome to know.
Since we have two separate IPTV channel providers, will it function if we connect both to the same VLAN as per the below configuration suggestions?

As long both providers sending their stream in different Multicast groups it should be possible.

You can see below two different MC groups in same Vlan but each mapped to an dedicated I-SID.

Dear Mat,
I have found an issue during below suggested configurations that, already our both core switches are running under Virtual IST protocol and for this the boot config flags spbm-config-mode should be disabled.
In this case the commands

spbm 1 multicast enable
spbm 1 ip enable

are not valid. Please advise how to proceed in this vIST environment
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi Mohammed,

you're stating, that you've vIST running an your core, that means the boot flag "spbm-config-mode" is set to true (default). An implementation of vIST requires an existing configuration and activation of SPBM.
Therefore MC routing with SPBM should be possible to enable.

Dear Mat,
If I am not wrong, vIST is running when the boot flag "spbm-config-mode" is set to FALSE
vIST can not be configured if boot flag "spbm-config-mode" is set to TRUE

I have verified the same with running config and this is the reason I can not run SPBM.
Please advise

Mohamed,

vIST needs to be configured additional on top of an configured and activated SPB and IS-IS.
There is no need to change the default values of boot flags.
I strongly recommend you to download (for free) the complete document library for your VOSS version on the Avaya support sites as long as they are still available.
There you'll find all needed information's and configuration examples to get vIST, Multicast routing, etc. running.

Good luck & Cheers
