trunk beetwen c3550 Nortel 5510 and Router without vlan capable
« on: November 14, 2013, 09:27:08 AM »
hi everybody,

I have big problem, my router does not have VLAN capabilities and for now i can't change it to another.
Could you tell me whether the configuration shown in the picture below (attachment) is possible?
It is possoble to strip vlan header on Nortel SWitch 5510 or 4524GT or TAG every packets (VLAN2,3,4)
with native VLAN header.
If so, could you give me configuration on port 23 and 5 on Nortel switch.
I know that the low-cost devices like SMC or LEVELONE could strip vlan header.

I would be grateful for your help.

Why not set the 5510 port to access and put it into the VLAN you want it to go?
When in access mode (Untag all), no VLAN tag shows up in the packet.

You will have to use the 5510 as a router.

Create a new vlan and add port 5 as an access port.
Add ip address to router with new vlan subnet
Add ip address to 5510 with new vlan subnet
Add ip interfaces to vlans 2, 3, 4
Enable ip routing.

Then add a route to the 5510 pointing to the router for outgoing traffic
Add a route to the router pointing to the new vlan interface to get to vlans 2 3 4

This will allow all pc to talk to each other and the router and provide un-tagged traffic between the router and 5510.

As mentioned above you would need to either have the Cisco 3500 or Avaya 5500 switch act as a (Layer 3 device) router. You could then route the traffic through to your edge/WAN router as opposed to bridge the traffic to it.

Good Luck!
