Storm Control in ERS 3500
« on: January 19, 2017, 11:34:26 AM »
Hi !
We have packet losses when we activate the rate-limit on the ERS3500.
We want to try Storm Control but what value to put in "LowWatermark (pps)" and "HighWartermark (pps)"?

With rate-limit, we limit to 5% broadcast traffic.

ERS 3549 / 3510 with v5.3.1 / v5.3.2 & v5.3.3

Thanks !

Standard rate-limiting drops packets.
Turn on shaping instead.  That uses QOS.

I would instead set your broadcast control by rate, not percent.  Set it to 150 PPS - unless you are running 10Mbit, half duplex this is low enough not to bother any users.

I have Windows NT pods (On Dell PII336 GX1's with 1.2GB drives and 128MB RAM) running Linkview Pro 6.0 monitoring broadcast rates. Once IPX/DLC-LLC/Appletalk is turned off the printers, our average rate per 800 device segment is under 30 frames/sec.

I do plan on virtualizing these pods so I can get all VLANS within a building instead of deploying physical hardware on the user VLANS only.
