Stacking Cable Compatibility
« on: October 09, 2014, 03:22:16 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have 20x Nortel BT552 PWR switches in my network. They are not particularly well cabled to together and in order to improve network through put, I wanted to start stacking the switches in each cabinet. Now I have a couple already stacking and they are done using cable with part number 55525JJ05 Rev B. Now as this stuff is all end of life I am struggling to get hold of Rev B cables, my questions is, will Rev A cables work the same? Or do I specifically need Rev  cables?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Andrew

Are those switches 5520's?  I don't know of a BT552 switch from Nortel/Avaya.  If it is a 5520, then they are still made and sold today.  Looking on my 5510/5520's they have Rev A1 cables and work just fine.  You only need to be careful when your using 5600 switches.  Those use a better type of cable to connect with as they work at higher speeds.

Yes you are correct, they are 5520's, after re-reading my post it would appear either my typing skills or wireless keyboard let me down as there a few typos.

Ok so my switches can use Rev A cables. Excellent, thanks for you help.

So if the 5520s are still sold, will I be able to buy new cables? My kit is Nortel and as Nortel is no longer I thought they stopped making the kit.

Kind regards

Andrew
