Stack Firmware update for 4850GTS ans 4550T
« on: May 20, 2014, 11:24:29 AM »
Hi guys,

I have a stack of 3 switches :

2x 4850GTS-POE+ (Want to update the firmware to 5.6.2.01)
1x 4550T-POE (Firmware is actually 5.3.0.3)

But the firmware revision are not the same. It's not like stacking a 4550T with a 4548GT.

So is the stack will support to only update the firmware of the 2 4850GTS when i'll do my "download" command ? I don't want to corrupt the 4550T if it update it to the whole stack.

So for now I only unstacked the 4550T to update the 4850GTS... It's fine because I have them on my desk, but I wouldn't imagine doing that in a production environnement...

Thanks !

Since you are mixing 4500's with 4800's ( which is supported ), I would look at updating both using the "combodiag" diagnostic image which should be fine for use on both the 4500 and 4800 switches at the same time.  Then you should be good to upgrade both 4500 and the 4800's units to the same software image level.

Back again on this good old post !

I tried to find it out in the Release Note or somewhere else in the forum, but didn't find anything :

Regarding mixing some ERS 4548GT and 4850GTS, do I need to downgrade my 4850GTS from sofware v5.8 to v5.6 (which my 4548GT are currently at) ?

I have I feeling that mixing 5.8, which is only for 4800, with something not at the same revision, will not work...

Thanks.

A mixed stack with ERS4500 and ERS4800 is not supported in 5.8.
As suggestested you have to downgrade your ERS4800 at leat to SW 5.7.x to be able to build a mixed stack.
As @TelAir has mentioned you should use the combidiag for your stack.
All switches in a stack should have the same SW and Diag.

Cheers
