Title: Software bug could cause a"Spontaneous Reset" on all VSP platforms
Post by: telecom116 on September 03, 2015, 06:00:13 PM
Check your VSP system uptimes now and prepare accordingly!

Name of problem: Spontaneous Reset with Core File On Virtual Services Platform Switches

A software interaction has been identified which could result in a spontaneous reset of VSP platforms running 4.0 and later software versions. The reset is triggered by the Lifecycle Watchdog due to an issue with the management of high resolution software timers and is linked to the system uptime. The table below provides the maximum system uptime for each affected model prior to a reset being initiated:

Platform                                        Max Uptime
VSP 9000 Series (VSP 9010, VSP 9012) 320 days
VSP 8000 Series (VSP 8284, VSP 8404) 284 days
VSP 7200 Series (VSP 7254XSQ/XTQ) 284 days
VSP 4850GTS / GTS-PWR+ 320 days
VSP 4450GSX / GSX-PWR+ 426 days
VSP 4450GTX-HT 426 days

Many thanks for sharing this information.
I have actually 16 VSP devices that will reach the max uptime that is discribed in the Product Notice in 5 days.

Couldīt see the mentioned fixed version on the Avaya homepage so far.
Do you now when the fix 4.2.11 will be available ?

Cheers

Don't know when the fixed software will be out.  My 7 devices have been upgraded to 4.2.1.0 within the last month or two so my uptimes are not high.

Years ago had problems with a ERS 1424T software version that stopped OSPF routing for 15 minutes every 50 days due to a counter bug - and I had 12 or so of them!   :-\
