Snmp Traps
« on: June 30, 2013, 03:18:37 AM »
Hi. I am trying to send snmp traps to a server. We are using ERS4550T switches and I have configured the server IP under host in EDM with a generic community string. I am still not receiving SNMP Traps on the server.  Is there some other setting that needs to be enabled.

Thanks.

I suppose you have to make sure you can reach the SNMP server from the switch by pinging it first.  Then that both the server and switch are talking/listening on the same port and using the same security key if it is using SNMPv3.  That's all I can think of.  If you still don't see anything maybe try sniffing the wire with Wireshark to see if the SNMP traps are getting to your server.

Did you try enabling linktrap on some ports and see what you get when you plug/unplug something?  Most of the traffic coming from these boxes is Syslog, not traps.

Thanks for your responses. I was looking at creating hosts setting in EDM. After running 'snmp-server host xx.xx.xx.xx communitystring' I was able to get it working properly.
