You cannot just "delete" the VLAN and use that as viable configuration to test RSMLT failover.

You should shut-off or power down the switch, that would be an acceptable test scenario.

Good Luck!

deleting a vlan doesn't mean  for end user perspective  shutting down the current gateway (current aggregation switch )  ??????????? although we have two links towards cluster and the other aggregation switch  also has it's peer information

:-\ (can't get shut down in production network)

Assuming, as I did originally that you are trying to test your RSMLT configuration. If you are trying to "test" whether RSMLT works or not you can't just delete the VLAN on one of the gateways - not in my opinion anyway. RSMLT is a proprietary Avaya protocol and shares it's peering information over the IST, not via a heartbeat or hello packets. That's why RSMLT scales so much more than VRRP because it reduces the load on the switch and there's less broadcast traffic being flooded into the network.

The purpose of utilizing RSMLT (or even VRRP) is to provide gateway redundancy between 2 switches/routers.

Assuming you have complete redundancy between your core/distribution/edge switches the true test of a redundant gateway is to shut it off. If the two switches are not completely redundant to each other than you probably need to schedule an outage window to perform your test.

Good Luck!
