Hi,

I have upgraded an 8600 chassis from V5.1.0.0 to V5.1.8.3, however two module cards (8634XGRS & 8612XLRS) will not initialise, a 3rd card (another 8634XGRS) does initialise successfully. I am receiving the following messages. Any ideas?

In most cases the FPGA firmware for the RS module has to be updated.

check your current version with:
sho asic info

If an Update is needed you need to copy the needed firmware to your ERS8k and perform the update:
config diag fpga rs-module-dpm update <1-4,7-10> [<filename>]
config diag fpga pim update <1-4,7-10> <file-name>

After the update wait at least 1 Minute and than reboot the module:
config slot <slot num> state reset

Good Luck

Itīs always the networks fault!

Thanks Dominik

I will check in the morning. I am worried though that one of the module cards came up OK, having said that it was  purchased after the two that have failed - could it have had appropriate code levels already?

thanks

Dave

I had similar problems about a month ago upgrading from 5.1.3.1 to a 7.2 code and had to RMA two RS boards, a 8634XGRS and a 8648GTRS.  See https://forums.networkinfrastructure.info/nortel-ethernet-switching/upgrade-8800-rs-board-failures/

I will tell you I know my 8634XGRS was a very early version; due to capacity issues (and probably having an old classic blade) I remember having to get one right after they were introduced (as I was using 5.0.0.1 code I seem to remember).  Probably the other RS blade was of the same vintage.  R-blade came up without a hitch and saved my you-know-what.
