PIM and IGMP implementation on VSP 4000 and ERS4K
« on: February 07, 2016, 08:49:10 AM »
Hello Everyone,

Can you help me implementing the igmp snooping on my network. I am running a 2 core VSP 4000 and edge switch ERS4K. The setup is a collapse core running VRRP and SMLT setup. The server and IP network camera is in different VLAN. VLAN 17 IP camera and VLAN 20 servers.

As what I have read implementing igmp snooping need to enable PIM on L3 switches and the RP in sparse mode.

Core1:
!
interface vlan 17
ip address 10.56.17.2 255.255.255.0
ip pim enable
interface vlan 20
ip address 10.56.20.2 255.255.255.0
ip pim enable
!
ip pim enable
ip pim static-rp
ip pim static-rp 239.255.255.250/32 10.56.17.2

Core2:
!
interface vlan 17
ip address 10.56.17.3 255.255.255.0
ip pim enable
interface vlan 20
ip address 10.56.20.3 255.255.255.0
ip pim enable
!
ip pim enable
ip pim static-rp
ip pim static-rp 239.255.255.250/32 10.56.17.3

Edge Switch:
!
vlan igmp 17 snooping enable
vlan igmp 20 snooping enable
!

Thank you

Hi adgobs,

does your VSP-4k's running on SPBM? Your ERS-4k's are 4500 or 4800?
If your VSP-4k's running on SPB you can enable IP Multicast over SPB instead of PIM.
Pls see attached PDF for more details.

Good luck

Hello,

This is the output of the "show ip igmp interface" in my L2 switches.

IDF-1D#show ip igmp interface
Query      Oper                      Query   Wrong                    LastMbr  Send
VLAN Intvl Vers Vers Querier         MaxRspT  Query  Joins  Robust Query   Query
---- ----- ---- ---- --------------- ------- -----  -----  ------ ------- -----
17   125    2     2    10.56.17.2      100           0     637160    2      10      No

Can someone explain me what does the JOINS mean in the output?

This is the info, how many times the hosts has joined the multicast group in the VLAN 17, am I right?
And your Multicast Router in this Group has an IP 10.56.17.2.
