Periodic Reboot for ERS Stackables and 8800
« on: October 19, 2014, 08:17:11 AM »
Hi,

Do we need a periodic reboot for the ERS Stackables (4000, 5000) and 8800 switches ?

If it is not required, is it recommended to reboot once in a year ?

Please suggest.

Thanks

Unless you're experiencing some issue, the only time you would need to reboot these switches would be for software upgrades.

Thank you very much. But i have received some communication earlier from Avaya that both ERS 8600's and Stackables needed a periodic reboot once in 400 days or so. But i forget the root cause completely but i remember that we should do this due to some bug in particular release. I will search for it more and get back to you. Your response is very much appreciated. :D

Correct,

there used to be a bug that made some issues when the sysuptime was 497 days and the counter rolled.

As far as I know all recent firmware releases should have been patched
Kind regards,

I've personally found that doing scheduled maintenance at least once a year regardless if it's Avaya or Cisco is great housekeeping tool to avoiding future problems. I prefer scheduled maintenance than unscheduled outages - but that's just my personal opinion. I've done it both ways and in the years I've skipped I've run into issues whether it's an ASA or an ERS.

Cheers!
