Packet errors on 1 MLT causing inaccessible hosts
« on: December 29, 2014, 07:18:54 PM »
Had a strange issue late today when a site with a ERS 5520 stack connected via two MLT gig fibers to a VSP 4000 had several hosts lose connection to the network.

Looking at one of the links had FCS errors on the 5520 side and packet errors on the VSP side of the connection, so admin disabled one side to force traffic down one side.

VLACP is enabled on the MLT links.  Any idea why it didn't take down the bad link in the MLT?

Timers are set fast time 500, timeout time short and timeout scale 5.

I can only guess that the errors on the port did not affect the VLACP hello packets enough to take the link down.  As long as one packet arrives at the far end inside the timeout window (2.5 seconds in your case), the line will stay up.
