Nortel ERS8310 to Cisco3750 Migration
« on: July 24, 2013, 08:03:08 PM »
Hello Guys,

For one of our customer, we are planning to replace Nortel 8310 with Cisco 3750. Can I please get some recommendations and suggestions about what to consider? And what's the efficient way to build the configuration?

# software version     : 4.0.3.0
Design - we have two ERS8310 connecting with five ERS4548 with SMLT. Both core are bonded with IST.

- what's the alternative of SMLT? I am thinking of LACP.

Thank you.

hi!
sory for my english, if you want to use Cisco 3750, alternative of SMLT will stack of 2 or more cisco 3750 and connect you ERS4548 MLT to 1/1 and 2/1 port on cisco 3750 stack for example. Anothe alternative tehnology by Cisco is VSS(onle 4500E, 4500X,6500), VPC(only Nexus famali)

You can use the SMLT or MLT to Etherchannel (channel-group 1 mode on), the main thing to note is cisco is expecting the native vlan to be untagged, so make sure you modify your avaya side of that.

EG:

Cisco:
Code: [Select]
interface Port-channel1
 description Uplink to Core
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,1000,1001,1013,3001
 switchport mode trunk
!
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/47
 description Uplink to Core
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,1000,1001,1013,3001
 switchport mode trunk
 no cdp enable
 channel-group 1 mode on
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/48
 description Uplink to Core
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,1000,1001,1013,3001
 switchport mode trunk
 no cdp enable
 channel-group 1 mode on
!

Nortel:
Code: [Select]
mlt 17 add ports 2/48,3/48
mlt 17 name "Top of Rack"
mlt 17 perform-tagging enable
mlt 17 smlt create smlt-id 17

ethernet 2/48 bcast-mcast-rate-limit 10 enable
ethernet 2/48 name "Top of Rack"
ethernet 2/48 stg 1 stp disable

ethernet 3/48 bcast-mcast-rate-limit 10 enable
ethernet 3/48 name "Top of Rack"
ethernet 3/48 stg 1 stp disable

To Show the vlan config on the ports: (untage default vlan, set to vlan 1)
Code: [Select]
Core-1:5# show ports info vlans 2/48,3/48

================================================================================
                                   Port Vlans
================================================================================
PORT          DISCARD   DEFAULT UNTAG   VLAN
NUM   TAGGING UNTAGFRAM VLANID  DEFVLAN IDS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2/48  enable  disable   1       disable 1 1000 1001 1013 3001
3/48  enable  disable   1       disable 1 1000 1001 1013 3001

So that is how we are doing a SMLT to Cisco Top of rack solution at the moment.

The PortChannel will not go up until you untag the default(native) vlan.

You could also use LACP Dynamic (channel-group 1 mode active), but we have not tried that here yet.

Just as an side: it is possible to configure Cisco switches to tag the native vlan. Use either the global "vlan dot1q tag native" command, or the per-interface "switchport trunk native vlan tag".
