NIC Teaming - MLT/SMLT
« on: December 12, 2013, 11:06:59 AM »
Hi all,
I'm trying to find up-to-date best practice docs on NIC teaming servers to ERS family, specifically a pair of 8800's with an IST.

LACP seems to be the norm for other vendors, but from some reading, MLT/SMLT/SLT are compatible for teaming nics?

Does anyone have experience of this and/or links to docs.

Cheers
Andy

LACP over SLT/SMLT is available on 8600/8800's.
Static LACP would require static SLT/SMLT's.
MLT's are static LACP links to one chassis/switch.
SMLT are static LACP links of more than one link to two chassis running IST/Clustered configuration.
SLT's are Single links to each clustered switch.

All of these are active/forwarding without spanning-tree so you would configure them as GEC or LACP on the server.

Quick and dirty review - there is more info elsewhere on the board.

Have you seen any recent guides on configuring LACP over SMLT for 8800s?

It's the same between 8600's and 8800's except greater density of ports.
I have not seen any recent documentation that points to significant enough changes to require a new guide.
