New Ethernet Routing Switch 3500 Software v5.2
« on: March 17, 2014, 05:51:20 PM »
New software day for ERS 3500 owners.  Software release v5.2 should be out today or tomorrow.  Adds new SFP support, features and fixes some bugs including the v5.1 memory leak bug according to the release notes.  If you have ERS 3500's, this release is worth looking at.  Readme is below:

Also, they have now released 48 port versions:

Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 3549GTS:
- 48 10/100/1000 non-PoE and 2 shared SFP, plus 1 1/10 Gigabit SFP+ port, plus 2 rear dual mode/stacking ports.

Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 3549GTS-PWR+:
- 48 10/100/1000 802.3at PoE+ and 2 shared SFP, plus 1 1/10 Gigabit SFP+ port, plus 2 rear dual mode/stacking ports.

Looks quite interesting, especially if the pricing is in a similar line to the rest of the 3500 series.

Interesting, does these two models have fans ?

Using a lot the 10 port models for places where fanless switches are requiered, would be cool to have an alternative with more ports.
Itīs always the networks fault!

I'm pretty sure that the 24 port models require fans, so my guess would be that the 48 port models need fans on also. I think it was just the 10 port model that could be run without the fans enabled.

It's only the small 8-port copper and 2 SFP port units that are fan-less.  Even then, the PoE model of the 8-port will run a fan if it's using 170 watts of power.  But otherwise the fan stays off.  I guess it can only vent so much heat passively before it has to turn on a fan.  All the 24 and 48 port models have fans in them as they are built for wiring closet usage.
