New ERS 5000 Software v6.3.3
« on: December 21, 2013, 06:41:24 AM »
Christmas is a little early this year for ERS 5000 owners who are using the v6.3.x code series.  Looks like we have v6.3.3 out today and it looks like it fixes the issues that v6.2.7 fixed in the v6.2 code family.  With those fixed-up v6.3.3 may finally be the production code we have been looking for!  Looks like a pure bug-fix release (as it should be).

This is good news.

It would be doubly nice if someone could confirm those issues are in fact fixed again.  I ran afoul of the shared port duplex issue and don't want to upgrade to v6.3.3 until I can confirm it is indeed fixed.  I had to downgrade from v6.3.1 to v6.2.7 after discovering it was "unfixed" in v6.3.1 and I don't want to have to go through that again..........LOL

According to the Avaya InfoCenter the duplex issue has been fixed in v6.3.3.

"The fix is available in 6.2.6 through the following WI.

ERS55xx Shared Copper ports do not retain the duplex setting post reboot (wi01047190)

Please also note that the fix is also ported in the 6.3.3 version via  WI01142289.

The Bug Details  :

Shared copper ports did not retain the duplex setting post reboot (WI01142289)"

I'm labbing right now with a 4 switch stack emulating a production stack.  We lost unit 3 on the production stack (running V6.2.7) a couple weeks ago and discovered AUR does not work correctly.

The release notes for v6.3.3 said that the AUR issue was also fixed:

"The base unit did not restore the configuration for a replaced unit (WI01142279)"

My labbing has proved otherwise.  The replaced unit does not automatically get it's config from the base unit.  If you force the unit config on before connecting it to the stack, it boots with the config in place just like it did in previous versions.

I'm going to be testing the duplex issue shortly to verify whether or not it is indeed fixed.

I'm responding as an FYI for anybody considering upgrading to v6.3.3 in hopes of fixing the AUR issue.  I will report back my findings on the duplex issue separately after a couple lab runs.

After a couple hours mucking around and testing as much as I can on my desk with a 4 switch stack and a single connected via a single copper wire, I can't make the duplex issue happen so it appears it is resolved.

Now if Avaya could just fix the AUR issue.................. :-\

Yay for no duplex issues!  I have a bunch of single 5510 and 5520 switches I could use the v6.3.3 code on that don't need ARU, so I think I'll try it on a few of them.

If somebody has roled out 6.3.3 it would be great to become a feedback how it worked out.

I have also a few locations where we wont to upgrade to 6.3.3.

Any feedback is welcome.
Itīs always the networks fault!

Hi guys,

short feedback regarding v6.3.3 rollout on dedicated customers location.

After two week I found two issues:
- NEAP re-authentication of connected SNOM-(VoIP)Phones does not work, other type of clients are not affected (all type of clients are re-authenticated with no problems on same environment with v6.2.7)

- there is a known bug with DHCP-Relay in mixed environment (IST-Cluster with v6.3.3 and edge switches with v6.2.7). After upgrading the "core" to v6.3.3, the DHCP-Requests from not directly connected clients (means clients connected to edge switches with v6.2.7) are not relayed to DHCP-Server. After you upgraded the edge switches to v6.3.3 the issue is gone. This issue is still reported to AVAYA and still under investigation in an Service-Request.

All other used features like (VRRP, OSPF, SLT/SMLT/IST) are (currently) working with no reported issues.

Thats from my side so far  ;)

I have confirmed the inability to retain port duplex info on shared copper/SFP ports after a switch reboot is now fixed in 6.3.3.
