New ERS 5000 Software v6.2.8
« on: April 26, 2014, 10:42:20 PM »
Updated code day for ERS 5000 users.  Release v6.2.8 is available for download and has some fixes and new/updated features like NTP support instead of just SNTP.  Some IPFIX updates and a number of code fixes.

Hi Telair,

Just wonder why Avaya still develop 6.2.x stream while we have 6.3.x already?

Thanks,

It's pretty normal for Avaya to develop a few different code streams at the same time as they are made for different things.

v6.2.x stream would be the "classic" code for the ERS 5000's and is the most stable.  I use this code on my edge switches as users don't need anything interesting and just want it to work.

v6.3.x would be the more advanced code stream with newer features and options, but not as stable as v6.2.x yet.  I really like some of the options in this code stream, but it still has bugs and issues that need fixing before I feel it's ready for general deployment.  I use this code on a couple switches where the newer features are needed, but not critical.

Then there is the almost experimental v6.6.x code stream that leaves behind backwards compatibility and is for ERS 5600 switches only, but gives you much more power to use the 5600's as a small core router.  I haven't loaded this code up yet, but am interested in where they are going to go with it.

We have 5520 stacks all running fw 6.0.0.9 and sw 6.1.2.029.  We have started receiving new 5520's with the lastest 6.0.0.18 fw that can not be upgraded.  Avaya does not recommend running 6.1.2 on the latest 6.0.0.18 fw.  Which version of 6.2 do you recommend?  We are not looking for any new features just stability.
Thanks

I've been using v6.2.7 (with 6.0.0.18) for quite a while now and find it very stable.

For pure stability then v6.2.7 would be the code I would use.  v6.2.8 came out, so read it's release notes to see if any of the fixes apply to you and your environment.  Otherwise just stay with v6.2.7 and you should be good.

6.2.8 is more a bugfix release, so in most cases it is as stable as 6.2.7 + some bugfixes.
With new major releases like e.g. 6.3 , 6.6 I would be more carefully.
