Multicast igmp membership
« on: September 13, 2013, 11:07:39 AM »

I've configured a 55110 v6.3.0.013 to use igmp snooping on a vlan.
The objective is to connect a Microsoft NLB Cluster and eliminate broadcasts on the network.

# vlan igmp 21 snooping enable
# vlan igmp 21 proxy enable

The NLB cluster was configured to work in IGMP-Multicast Mode.
The thing is that we cluster is not working, the

and the ouput of #show vlan multicast membership 21 is:
Number of groups: 0
Multicast Group Address In Port

#show vlan igmp 21
Vlan ID: 21
Snooping:  Enabled
Proxy:  Enabled
Robust Value:  2
Query Time:  125 seconds
IGMPv1 Static Router Ports: NONE
IGMPv2 Static Router Ports: NONE
Querier Port: NONE
Multicast Router Expiration: 0 seconds

Does anyone have a clue on this behavior?

As far as I know, NLB clustering uses unicast IP/multicast MAC packets. This should not interfere with valid IGMP reports in any way. Sending host reports with unicast IPs will discard the reports as invalid.

Are you sure the cluster isn't failing because you have some sort of multicast flood blocking feature activated?
# vlan igmp unknown-mcast-no-flood enable
# ip igmp multicast-filter-mode enable

Does the cluster work correctly with no igmp snooping or multicast flood blocking feature activated?

You can take a look at the Avaya NLB Guide:

Good Luck
