JDM Device manager painfully slow
« on: June 04, 2014, 09:05:19 PM »
I launched the JDM 6.0.1.0 and connected to the stack ip successfully, but anything I do at all, clicking from port to port is 5-8 seconds lag between clicks. Anyone have a way to fix this?

You might want to try updating your version of JDM to the last one that was released.  v6.2.1.4 was the last release that supported the vast majority of equipment.  Any version of JDM past that version only works on ERS 8300's.

Thank you. I downloaded that and tried to install, however I got an error when trying to connect.

You are attempting to use an older version of JDM code with a newer version of software code for this device you are managing. Please visit nortel.com to get the latest JDM software.

That sounds weird considering the 6.0.1.0 worked, but 6.2.1.4 doesn't. Any ideas?

I did get it to connect despite the message. Still, clicking one port tot he next is a solid 8-10 second delay. The web works, but I was hoping for something a little more robust. I am connecting to ip, not over the console cable. Might that have something to do with it?

I think it was as of v6.2.1 on the 5500's that JDM was no longer supported.  It will still work on most equipment, but yes.  It will always throw that error no matter what.  Also, JDM was made to run on Windows NT/2000/XP.  It was never made to run on Vista, 7 or 8 much less 64-bit version of them.  I personally don't get anything near that kind of delay when I use JDM for a few things.  But I also put it in a Windows XP box in VirtualBox.  So that may be what's helping it.

JDM is dead now and I find the EDM web interface decent to use and much less glitchy these days.

If your switch had EDM onboard, you should use that instead of the JDM client software. JDM is no longer being developed, and the last versions are specific versions for ERS 8300 only. JDM will work with the 5500's but will not support the latest features. So normally if you want to use JDM, you should only use it to view items, not to change things..

It is easy to spot if your machine has EDM onboard: just connect to the web interface. If it gives you a red Ayava logon page, you've got EDM and don't need JDM on your client anymore
