How to put my new base switch on a stack ?
« on: January 29, 2015, 07:44:55 AM »
Hi,

I'm doing my training period in a datacenter and I have a question for you, hope you'll be able to answer it  ;)

I have a stack of 4 Nortel/Avaya switches:

BASE> Nortel 5530-24TFD (BASE UNIT)
Unit #2 > Avaya 5520-24T-PWR
Unit #3 > Nortel Baystack 5510-48T
Unit #4 > Nortel 5510-24T

I've update the firmware and the diag file on every switches (FW: 6.0.0.18 SW:v6.3.3)

When I put out a slave switch from the stack and I put a new one, there is no problem.
But when I put out my base unit from the stack, one of the slave unit is designated as the new base unit temporary (the base LED turn amber), and when I put my new "real" base unit, the temporary base unit (the one with the amber LED) keeps its mode. The only way to fix it is to reset the entire stack.

Do you know if there is a way to fix this without reseting the entire stack ?

Thank you

I hate to tell you this but, there is no way to replace the base unit, and have it take over the base role, without resetting the stack.

Sorry, but the stack has to be rebooted in order to return the base function back to the base unit.  There is no other way to do it.
