Extreme vsp7200 SMLT - cisco UCS FI port-channel
« on: January 24, 2020, 07:50:10 AM »
I have 8 links connecting two cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect to two Extreme VSP7200 switches.
two port-channels configured on cisco UCS FI :
FI-A port-channel id3 ----(4 links)----> Extreme SMLT id3
FI-B port-channel id4 ----(4 links)----> Extreme SMLT id4

The network team did a configuration change then multiple links shown as "Failed" on cisco UCSM.
I received Avaya running configuration as below:

-------------------- vsp7200-switch-A -------------------------
mlt 3 enable name "UCS-SW01"
mlt 4 enable name "UCS-SW02"

interface mlt 3
smlt
lacp enable
exit

interface mlt 4

lacp enable
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable

name "UCS-SW01-P"
no shutdown
lacp key 3 aggregation enable mode passive partner-key 3 partner-state 4
lacp enable
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable

interface GigabitEthernet 1/15

interface GigabitEthernet 1/16

lacp key 4 aggregation enable mode passive partner-key 4 partner-state 4
lacp enable
exit

-------------------- vsp7200-switch-B -------------------------

mlt 3 enable name "UCS-SW01"
mlt 4 enable name "UCS-SW02"

interface mlt 3

interface mlt 4

interface GigabitEthernet 1/13

no shutdown
lacp key 3 aggregation enable mode passive partner-key 3 partner-state 4
lacp enable
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable
sflow sampling-rate 20000
sflow counter-interval 2
sflow collector 1
exit

interface GigabitEthernet 1/14
default-vlan-id 159
name "UCS-SW01-P"
no shutdown
lacp key 4 aggregation enable mode passive partner-key 3 partner-state 4
lacp enable
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable
sflow collector 1
exit

interface GigabitEthernet 1/15
default-vlan-id 159
name "UCS-SW02-P"
no shutdown
lacp key 3 aggregation enable mode passive partner-key 4 partner-state 4
lacp enable
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable
sflow collector 1
exit

interface GigabitEthernet 1/16
default-vlan-id 103

no shutdown
lacp key 4 aggregation enable mode passive partner-key 4 partner-state 4
lacp enable
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable
sflow collector 1
exit

---------------------------------------------
I have 3 questions:
1. The "lacp key" must equal the "partner-key" otherwise the link will fail. right?
2. What is "partner-state 4"? Does this affect the link or causes it to fail?
3. I see some settings NOT set on all ports, like:
        no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable
        sflow sampling-rate 20000
        sflow counter-interval 2
        sflow collector 1
does this affect the link? what is the impact of deleting this block, so that settings will be similar to other ports?

Hello Alexa,

1. The "lacp key" must equal the "partner-key" otherwise the link will fail. right?
-> Nope, the partner parameters concerne the LACP peer not the local.
you can delete all partner parameters.
2. What is "partner-state 4"? Does this affect the link or causes it to fail?
The LACP state match the status and capability (agregation, collecting, distributing etc.. ), an example below :
Partner State: 0x02 (Timeout)
 .... ...0 = LACP Activity: No
 .... ..1. = LACP Timeout: Yes
 .... .0.. = Aggregation: No
 .... 0... = Synchronization: No
 ...0 .... = Collecting: No
 ..0. .... = Distributing: No
 .0.. .... = Defaulted: No
 0... .... = Expired: No

3. I see some settings NOT set on all ports, like:
no spanning-tree mstp  force-port-state enable -> disable the mstp on the port : OK
        sflow sampling-rate 20000
        sflow counter-interval 2
        sflow collector 1
-> Sflow configuration is to capture trafic information and send it to a collector.

does this affect the link? what is the impact of deleting this block, so that settings will be similar to other ports?
MSTP can impact if active but it is disabled here.
Sflow can impact the system but no at your level.

Théo
