Title: ERS8800 End of Support?
Post by: Bez on August 06, 2018, 10:14:59 AM
Hi All,

Can anyone let me know when the ERS8800s are going end of support.

I've found a document that tells me that:

The hardware is End of Support on 13th June 2019
Software was end of support 13th of June 2017 -i assume that this means no more development?

It states that "targetted end of services support" is June 13th 2022. Is this the "final" date?

Thanks in advance

the June 2019 date is when hardware support technically ends.  Extended warranty can be sold only base on product availability.  Between 2019 and 2022 hardware support is best effort.

you really should be looking to get those ERS8800 replaced for VSPs this year.

As for software.  June 2017 was the end of software development.  To your comment, that means that we closed all Development and the final release has been posted. v7.2.26.    You can still get that code and use it, its very stable.    However Extreme will not perform any root-cause analysis for reported cases.    Customers can still open tickets and the GTAC will help customers solve their issues or help with best practices or work arounds.  But no fixes will be published for discovered bugs.

I think Extreme is in the same boat as Cisco with the sheer number of 8600/8800 & 6509's are deployed out there. I've got a lot of customers that are going to keep both until they can't buy spares - which should be about forever. If there's a business reason to switch - do it - if it's just plumbing, keep it.
