ERS4550T PoE failure
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:35:18 AM »
I discovered a very strange bug on a ERS4550t Stack with 4 Units running SW 5.6.3.

I had connected only one PoE Device (a Cisco IP Phone) that uses PoE.
In the moment there are morethan  45 Ports connected with normal Client PCs that do not utilize PoE , the PoE stops working.
That is limited to each unit. So if you have 45 Ports connected to Unit 2 only PoE fails on Unit 2, Unit 3
still can prvide PoE until there are also more than 44 ports up.

Have only seen that behavior on SW 5.6.3.

Has anybody else expierenced a similar PoE issue ?
Itīs always the networks fault!

Are you surpassing the capabilities of the power supply? How many ports are providing power?

It is only 1 Port providing Power.
So there can not be a power capacity problem.

Had this happen with a faulty Security Camera.  Even with disabling Legacy POE support, the mid-plane would essentially lock up.  We had to deploy a Power-Dsine POE+ power injector for that one camera.

I tested with 3 different VoIP Phones, that run on other ERS4550T stacks that have older SW installed
without any issues. Even when all 48 PoE Ports utilizing power I have had no issues with the
PoE suuply for the VoIP Phones.

With SW 5.6.3 we have a bug in the SW image , I have no other idea how it comes that PoE fails for a complete Unit when more than 45 Ports have a link (only one port in my test was a PoE device).
