ERS 5698 PWR Help
« on: September 26, 2016, 01:24:17 PM »
Hi all,

I have an issue with the 5698PWR which I have never encountered and I hope someone can help. I plugged in a SFP SX or LX into port 96 and 96. When I look at the switch through EDM the 2 Fiber ports show greyed out and I cannot use the fiber sfp's. Anyone else run into this problem?

Are the SFP genuine Avaya/Nortel SFP?  I've had issues several years ago with ERS 5520 switches and third-party SFPs.

Also, what version code are you running on the switch?  Newer software versions may have relaxed the checking issues.

I just upgraded to 6.6.3.0.15 and I still have the same issue. I just opened up a brand new in the box SFP SX and still same issue.

Have you tried plugging in the fibre cable and bringing up the link? The Nortels often would leave the SFP greyed out on shared ports until a fibre link comes up on the port - then it would disable the copper port and use the fibre.

Run the command "show interfaces gbic-info".  Does it or "show sys-info" indicate the SFP?
