ERS 5600 release 6.6.1.. Any thoughts?
« on: March 26, 2015, 03:05:58 PM »
Hi folks.

Do any of you have experience with release 6.6.1 for the ERS5600? Is it good, bad, stable etc.?

I want to try out the Out-of-Band management feature (in the lab), but I don't want to have to downgrade before putting the switch into production.

Would you recommend using 6.6.1 in a production environment or should I stay with the 6.3.x code stream?

I noticed that there haven't been any updates to the 6.6.x code stream since August 2014.

Thanks.

So far I can't say we've had any problems with the 6.6.1 release used wth TOR/BOR in four of our data centers. However, we've quite a way to go before we've migrated all servers from the legacy 8300s and Enterasys (gasp!) to the new infrastructure.

I'll try to remember to post an update here as we gain more experience.

Thanks onikolaisen.

I'd be interested in hearing more of your experiences as time goes on.

I liked the "gasp" when you mentioned Enterasys.  ;D Didn't Extreme buy them out?

Thanks again.

The Enterasys gear we're replacing at this particular hospital is closing in on 10 years of age and has end of support late 2015. It's safe to say that it has given a fair ROI, but it's hopelessly behind in terms of performance.

Extreme did buy Enterasys, I believe Extreme has also been playing around with SPBV og later SPBM. Will be interesting to see what comes out of that. Extreme has never been a contender as we're trying to limit the number of vendors we use - the lack of SPBM is in this case cruical as we use Avaya in the rest of this particular Metro area.
