ERS 4850 : Telnet Issue
« on: August 29, 2013, 11:53:03 AM »
Hi Team,

I have a case in which customer have ERS 5850 V.5.6.0. He got an error "session limit reached".
we know that by power cycle of switch can restart the telnet session, but it will cause loss of configuration to some extent.

So, I suggested customer to upgrade to v5.6.3 where lossing of config issue has been addressed.
But, I want to know that is there any command line to kill the existing telnet session, so that no need to power cycle the switch.

As I recall there was no way to terminate the "stuck" telnet sessions besides a reboot.

Sorry, the ERS is 4850. I mistakenly written  5850.

So, if the reboot is only option, then it is better to upgrade v5.6.3 where the loss of config issue has been addressed.

Also, is there any workaround to avoid such issues to occur :
like to increase the no. of telnet session ?

these are options on the 8600/8800 series devices.  You can set the number of sessions and clear existing sessions. Very handy and fun kicking people out of your routers.

Unfortunately you will need to reboot your switch. And yes I would take that opportunity to upgrade it. you will need to reboot it twice anyways.
