Dual home servers
« on: March 10, 2014, 08:03:02 AM »
Michael,

We would like to dual home 4 or 5 of our servers, (Dell) to our joined 8600's, (5.1.8.3). We have successfully dual homed our 5520 closet switches to the same 8600's and are wondering if there is a different procedure for doing the servers. We had a vendor attempt it with no success. The only thing that was pointed out was that we should "set teaming to be configured as NFT with primary" to avoid connection drops. If you have any articles to point me to or comments to share with it is appreciated.

Regards,

Hi Michael,

I recommend to aggregate dual-homed server(s) via SMLT and LACP, this well documented on support sites of AVAYA. Used SMLT-ID`s and LACP-Keys must be same on each cluster member of ERS-8k.

Good luck

here is the best doc Avaya will have the subject http://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100123847

I would try a standard MLT based SMLT.

If that doesn't work, try what MatzeKs sugests and use an LACP based SMLT.

if you have a switch cluster it would look like this.

ERS8600-A
config mlt 21 create
config mlt 21 name "SMLT_LACP"
config mlt 15 lacp key 15
config mlt 15 lacp enable

ERS8600-B
config mlt 21 create
config mlt 21 name "SMLT_LACP"
config mlt 21 lacp key 15
config mlt 21 lacp enable

ERS8600-A
config ethernet 3/2 perform-tagging enable
config vlan 1 ports remove 3/2
config vlan 388 ports add 3/2

ERS8600-B
config ethernet 3/2 perform-tagging enable
config vlan 1 ports remove 3/2
config vlan 388 ports add 3/2

ERS8600-A
config ethernet 3/2 lacp enable
config ethernet 3/2 lacp key 21
config ethernet 3/2 lacp aggregation true
config ethernet 3/2 lacp timeout short

ERS8600-B
config ethernet 3/2 lacp enable
config ethernet 3/2 lacp key 21
config ethernet 3/2 lacp aggregation true
config ethernet 3/2 lacp timeout short

ERS8600-A
config lacp smlt-sys-id 00:01:81:28:84:00
config lacp enable

ERS8600-B
config lacp smlt-sys-id 00:01:81:28:84:00
config lacp enable

ERS8600-A
config mlt 21 smlt create smlt-id 21
config vlan 388 add-mlt 1

ERS8600-B
config mlt 21 smlt create smlt-id 21
config vlan 388 add-mlt 1
