Downgrade 5600/VSP7000?
« on: February 19, 2015, 03:23:44 PM »
So I'm interested in checking out the new "5600 only" v6.6 software on a spare 5632.  However, in case I don't like it, I want to be able to roll it back to whichever version is on it presently (6.2.7 or 6.3.1).  I've downgraded FW/SW on 5500 series switches many, many times, but have yet to try it on an of our other switches.

Also, I would like to test the most recent SW/FW for the VSP7000's, also on a spare, and am wondering about downgrading it too.  Basically, I don't want to upgrade and switch and be stuck with that SW/FW on it.

So my question, has anybody here downgraded either successfully?

I have some 5632's and 5650's that I have upgraded and downgraded just fine.  They work exactly like 5500's.  When I downgrade the code on a switch I tend to wipe the unit config and reload it after the code change.  Sometimes going backwards can break things in the config and hang a unit until you wipe the flash memory as a worst case.

Sorry, I don't have any VSP7000's to play with to help you with that one.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

It's good to know I can downgrade the 5632's after I have a look at the v6 SW.  I won't likely be configuring anything on them and it will be in a lab environment so I don't have to worry about broken cfg's.  I'd be resetting them to factory after the downgrade regardless.

I suspect the VSP 7000's will also downgrade.  Since I have a couple spares, I'll try it on one and should the worst happen, will just inform my boss we'll have to upgrade the redundant clustered production stacks of 7000's at some point in the near future..........LOL
