DHCP Snooping not working on stacked switches
« on: December 13, 2016, 06:07:22 AM »
Hi,

We have 3549GTS stack of 2 switches, software version 5.3.1 and I wanted to enable dhcp snooping on this stack. When i enable dhcp snooping i can only see clients from Unit 1 (base unit) on DHCP Bindings table. Not a single client from Unit 2. I connected Unit 2 client to Unit 1 and then i can see it on bindings table.

Switch is connected with VSP7k core with mlt on edge -> slt on core side. Uplinks are split from 1/49 and second from 2/49. Stack is connected with rear ports. Uplink ports are "trusted" by dhcp snooping. I also tryed to disable on MLT link but it did'nt help.

It's kinda odd problem coz dhcp snooping enable should be global configuration but not working for stack unit 2. It seems like stack members are not communicating?
Stack itself is healthy and everything seems ok.

I also made a Service Request on Avaya support but just in case I would like to hear if anyone had a same issue?

hi,

here you go:

Code: [Select]
#sho boot

----- ----------- ------------ ---------- -----------
1     5.3.1.003   5.3.1.003    5.3.0.6    5.3.0.6
2     5.3.1.003   5.3.1.003    5.3.0.6    5.3.0.6
* - Stack requires reboot for new Active Image to be made operational.
# - Stack requires reboot for new Diag to be made operational.

Code: [Select]
#show running-config module dhcp-snooping

ip dhcp-snooping
ip dhcp-snooping vlan 1824
interface Ethernet ALL
ip dhcp-snooping port 1/49,2/49 trusted
exit

Code: [Select]
#show stack health

UNIT#            Switch Model       Cascade Up            Cascade Down

2                 3549GTS           OK                    OK

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Switch Units Found = 2
Stack Health Check = OK - RESILIENT
Stack Diagnosis = Stack in full resilient mode.

btw for testing i enabled dhcp snooping on one of the 2550T 3Unit stack and there its working fine. I have same dhcp-snooping config. dhcp-snooping on one vlan and uplinks are trusted and i can see clients from all units.

Hi,

outputs are looking good for me. I also could not find any reported issues regarding your finding in any release notes later your used version.

May you can try to load the latest available release: Ethernet Routing Switch 3500 series v5.3.3 to see if this fixes your issue.

Good luck

ok I upgraded to latest release 5.3.3.0.15 and it seems to be working now.
Sadly i did not make restart to switch before the upgrade so i cant 100% say if upgrade helped or just booting switch.

Code: [Select]
#show boot
Unit  Agent Image Active Image Diag Image Active Diag
----- ----------- ------------ ---------- -----------
1     5.3.3.015   5.3.3.015    5.3.0.7    5.3.0.7
2     5.3.3.015   5.3.3.015    5.3.0.7    5.3.0.7
* - Stack requires reboot for new Active Image to be made operational.
# - Stack requires reboot for new Diag to be made operational.
