Current Stable ERS8800 Code?
« on: August 16, 2013, 10:40:24 AM »
I am looking to get feedback from people operating ERS8800/8600 switches running v7 code.

I had some frustrating experiences early in v7 code with simple things that did not work properly. It seems from peers and colleagues that there is a challenge in finding a good stable version of code within v7 and I know some groups who have stayed on the last version of v5 for this reason.

Anyone have advice or experiences they could share related to releases of v7 code? (Good or Bad)

Thanks
Stefan

I have made very good expierence with the 7.1.5.x Releases.
Run it on a bunch of ERS8800 without any issues so far, even on boxes that utililize a lot of features and have a large config.

Havenīt tried the 7.2 releases so far, I will stay with 7.1.5x releases as long as I donīt need a particular feature of the 7.2.x code.

I would say 7..1.5.x runs in my expierence even more stable than 5.1.x.

Cheers

Hi,

I was using 5.1.x in 8600 cluster for long time without any problem.. recently upgraded to 8800 cluster with 7.1.3 and end up with lots of issues with LACP. AVAYA recommended to restart the switch to solve the problem. Advice to do the off-line testing of your configuration before moving to production.

Thanks for the feedback Dominik.

Also thanks for the feedback Asikal. I totally agree with your approach, however when completing ERS8800 net-new installs with new-gen hardware you need to use 7.x code. 5.x code and older is not supported.

Thanks again,
Stefan

I have a number of ERS 8600 and 8600s running 7.1.5.3 without too many issues or problems.

I'm 20 days into 7.2.10.0 for a pair of 8800s with no problems yet.

I was forced to upgrade due to ongoing issues in getting MS-NLB in multicast mode working properly. Otherwise I'm just doing the basic route / switch stuff on the boxes.

We are 4 days and counting after a 8692 to 8895SF hardware upgrade and software upgrade to 7.2.10.
We have only had one issue with a 8648GTR not working after a firmware upgrade to dpc194 and reseat.
After replacing the board with a spare, the firmware upgrade process on the new module hung.
We had also incorporated HA-CPU, and were able to fail over to the second CPU which seemed to terminate the process on the master.
So far, we are keeping fingers and toes crossed.

all our customers running any version of 7.X have been happy.

one customer has been running 7.1.3 with ZERO issues.  600+ days of uptime.....

but for any net new install I would certainly go straight to 7.2.X
