Connecting multiple VLANs between two ERS5510 Stacks
« on: September 20, 2016, 09:14:52 AM »
Hello Nortel/Avaya Experts out there...

I have drawn a picture of my current configuration and attached it to this post for your better understanding. I have two 5510-24T switches configured as a stack with two vlans and another two 5510-48T Switches also stacked with two vlans configured as well. VLAN1 on Stack1 is connected via a 4-Port-MultiLink-Trunk to VLAN1 on Stack2 (Ports 1&2 on Switch1/2/3/4) - same has been done for VLAN2 on Ports 23/24 on Switch1/2 and Ports 47/48 on Switch 3/4.

The problem is: On VLAN1 everything is working fine. On VLAN2 communication from Stack1 to Stack2 is not working - if I connect one device to Switch1 on VLAN2, e.g. Port 17 and another device to Switch4 on Port 17 these devices cannot talk to each other. On the same switch or stack it works ok - between the two stacks it is not. Why?

I think we should have found the problem - to make the configuration work we will have to switch off STP on the switches.

The problem is actually that you have 2 logical connections between your two Stacks.

You can have only one logical connection / Trunk between your two stacks.
To provide connectivity for VLAN 1 and VLAn 2 over your Trunk activate tagging and add the Trunk as a memeber of both VLANs.

Good Luck
Itīs always the networks fault!
