BOSS Update via DiagnoseTools unsuccessful
« on: July 26, 2016, 04:22:22 AM »
I have the old Diagnostic Tools 5.6.2.1. BOSS doesn't work - Agent Checksum Failed.

I wanted to upgrade Diagnostic Tools and BOSS via DiagnosticTools. Via TFTP it doesn't work - there is no active connection between SW (Port 1) and my PC. The same error like here: https://forums.networkinfrastructure.info/nortel-ethernet-switching/ers-4850-bootrom-agent-code-checksum-failed/

I am always able to do the upgrade via USB PenDrive, but on this SW it doesn't work. On the other SWes it works without any problems (I made an upgrade via USB on 4 other devices). My new error is:

Code: [Select]
EHCI fail timeout STD_ASS reset

When I choose the "d" in DiagnosticMenu, I see the error:
Code: [Select]
Press 'a'  to run Agent code
Press 'd'  to download agent/diag/bootloader code
Press 'e'  to display Errors
Press 'i'  to initialize config flash
Press 'p'  to run POST tests
Press 'r'  to reset the box...

System Resets  =       24.

Burn-In Loops  =        0.
Burn-In Errors =        0.
Auto-Burn-In   = DISABLED

Diagnostic Error Log:

Bad Port Mask (b1=port1):  00000000
Loop Test Errs Error_Description:
  23  106    1 USB PHY chip ID wrong sb 0009 is 0101

What's wrong?

Is there a reason you can't do the upgrade via the normal upgrade process?  Doing an upgrade via the diagnostic menu is supposed to only be used as a last resort in case of terminal image corruption.

This is my last resport. I can't start the SW with old BOSS. There is the error: "Agent Checksum Failed", so I need to do this via DiagnosticMenu. I will contact Avaya Spport and provide the answers/solution in this post for the others :)

If after uploading the image file it always says it is corrupted.  Then probably the flash memory in the unit is damaged and can't hold data without errors.  It is likely an RMA to get a new switch.  As long as you are the original owner you should be able to get it replaced under Avaya's lifetime warranty program for free if you don't have a contract.

In some cases a newer Software (image) cannot be loaded wit an existing old Diag, this causes the same error message.

Please try to load the latest available diag first, reboot the switch and try to load your software along the supported upgrade path.

Good luck

You helped me with exactly this solution on the other switch, it was OK then. But on this SW it doesn't work.
