Avaya VSP7254 vIST To Cisco 6500 VSS
« on: April 22, 2016, 12:49:08 PM »
I am hoping someone can give me some clarification on getting these linked to each other using Avaya MLT/SMLT and Cisco Etherchannel.  I have read and seen Flintstone's write up:  https://forums.networkinfrastructure.info/nortel-ethernet-switching/how-to-smlt-cisco-6500%27s-across-two-ers5650-stacks/msg3007/#msg3007

However I noticed in this write up it doesn't specify if the Cisco Cores are using VSS.  So if I was trying to do this with Cisco 6500 Cores with VSS would I only need one MLT or would I still use 2 MLT groups on the Avaya's?

Thanks for your help.

Hi kayen,

The Cisco Cores were not using VSS which is why there were two MLT groups, so If your Cisco Cores were using VSS then you would only need use one MLT group :)

Just to give an update, this was implemented and it works perfect.  I don't even have spanning-tree blocking ports and have full bandwidth with my links.  Failover is flawless without any ping loss, so should be virtually undetected by hosts if a switch were to fail completely.
