Avaya ERS4548GT with Cisco3750 can't auto-negotiate
« on: May 15, 2013, 06:12:22 AM »
Hi anyone can give me suggestion about auto-negotiate issue
I have Cisco3750(Core) and Avaya ERS4548GT(Edge), both switch support 1Gbps

Issue
When I plug UTP cable at laptop, laptop will be “identifying” and then show “unplugged”

My temporary solutions:
1.    Fixed speed at Avaya ERS4548GT to 100mbs or
2.    Disabled STP at Avaya ERS4548GT or
3.    Replace a good quality LAN cable such as AMP LAN cable

How can I fix this issue by not use three temporary solutions as above
I check my UTP cable, patch panel are Cat5e and NIC is set to "auto-negotiate"

at Cisco3750

Hi SKZ and welcome to the forums!

I haven't seen any issue with auto-negotiation between an Cisco 3750 and an Avaya 4548...  you subject line and text body though are talking about completely differnet Layers. Your subject line is talking about a Layer 1 problem but your message talks about Layer 2 issues and port bonding (Port Channel / MultiLink Trunk).

You can look at this post for information on how to setup a LACP 802.3ad LAG between a Cisco 3750 and an Avaya 4500/5000 series switch.

Good Luck!

Hi Michael McNamara

thank for your suggest.

someone told me the issue come from the ability of the cable to operate differs from vendor to vendor and even devices too.

May I should change trunking between Cisco and Avaya to LACP like your example

Hi Michael McNamara

I following your example guide 802.1Q VLAN Tagging on a Cisco Catalyst 3750-E
but on Cisco3750 have error massage about etherchannel as below, have you see before?
%with LACP enabled, all ports in the Channel should belong to the same switch Command rejected (Port-channel46, Gi1/0/16) : Invalid etherchnl mode

thank you

You haven't provided enough information to be helpful, please post the actual config statements and the log entries if you'd like me (or anyone) to look at them!
