Adding new VLAN to A pair or Nortel 8600s?
« on: March 23, 2015, 04:56:49 PM »
Hello,

We have a pair of Nortel 8600s (yes I know, old), from a diagram they are conencted to each other by an MLT.  Off these 2 8600s are Nortel 5520s where users connect, basically from each 5520 there are 2 ports, one into each 8600 for redundancy.

I need to add a new VLAN using the Nortel Enterprise Switch Manager, but don't know how to, if it was Cisco I'd be ok, but this is a new world.

It seems all the VLANs have a virtual address (x.x.x.254), for example VLAN90 for our users is 192.168.90.x/24 and their gateway is 192.168.90.254 and it seems the 8600s are set up as 192.168.90.253 (8600-1) and 192.168.252 (8600-2), but I can't see how this is done.  VRRP seems to be empty, I can't even find where these IP's are configured.

I need add VLAN9 and add it to a trunk on port 1/48 on each 8600 which connects to a stack of Cisco 3750Gs where VLAN9 is.

Any pointers in where to look would be great, hopefully I can work out the rest.

Thanks

What release software are you running on the 8600's? Depending on your version (I think anything before release 7), you should be using the Java Device Manager to configure the switch.

Also.  If you can attach the configuration of one of the 8600's, that would be helpful.

Hello,

I know it is before version 7 as we use device manager.  What is the best way to export the config to tftp?

Thanks

If you have a TFTP server running on your PC, you can export the config file and then view it in WordPad for example.

The command to use would depend on what release of software you're running and whether you're using the ACLI (NNCLI) or CLI.

Using CLI:

Variable definitions
Use the data in the following table to use the copy <srcfile> <dstfile> command.

Variable Value
dstfile The destination file in the format {a.b.c.d:|peer:|/pcmcia/xxx|/flash/xxx}<file> and file is the file name of the destination file.
srcfile The source file in the format {a.b.c.d:|peer:|/pcmcia/|/flash/}<file> and file is the filename of the source file.

For example:
copy /flash/config.cfg a.b.c.d: config.cfg where a.b.c.d is the IP of your PC with the TFTP server.

I believe the command is the same with the NNCLI (ACLI).
