Add 2 unit in a stack
« on: September 11, 2013, 08:18:43 AM »
Hi all,

I have a question about a best practice.

I must add 2 unit on an existing stack of 2 ERS 45XX.

My question is: I do the task in 2 times (1 switch one by one)  or directly add unit 3 & 4 in same time ?

First method:
1) add the unit 3 on the stack (attach the stack cable to close the loop)
2) power on the unit 3
3) wait for the complete initialization (the switch reboot 2 times or more)
4) check with "sh stack heath" that all is OK
5) do the same process with the unit 4 (task 1, 2, 3 and 4)

Second method:
1) add the unit 3 and 4 on the stack (attach the stack cable to close the loop)
2) power on the unit 3 & 4
3) wait for the complete initialization (the switchS reboot 2 times or more)
4) check with "sh stack heath" that all is OK

Thx for your help.

Rgds

I would recommand the first method, in fact that has proven to be working without any issue.
All that you loose is a littlebit of time.
If you think you are lucky give method 2 a try, and let me know how it has worked out.

Good Luck
Itīs always the networks fault!

I use the first method.  If you add a few units at the same time you never know what unit number they will come up with.  I have had stacks that from the top down are numbered 1-3-2-5-4 which makes it really hard when they show in EDM as 1-2-3-4-5.
