55xx DHCP - address per port
« on: September 15, 2015, 09:09:07 AM »
I'm preparing to install a new (to me, anyways) ERS5520. I'd like to somehow associate DHCP (v4) address assignments with particular ports - ie. anyone who plugs a machine into port 22 is always assigned x.x.x.122 by default.

Either using the built-in facilities of the switch, or using ISC dhcpd - what (if anything) would be the best way to accomplish this?

I can't think of a way to make a specific port always end up with a certain IP address all the time.  You plug a PC in to the port, it makes a DHCP request which is served by the DHCP server.  The switch doesn't have a lot to do in this case as long as it passes the DHCP request and offer back and forth.  If it is a specific system that plugs in to that port, you of course could do a DHCP reservation on the server.  But I don't think that's what you are asking in this case.

I would create DHCP reservations for each of those devices, and then implement MAC Security to map the MACs against the ports.
