iphone IOS6 Captive portal Login issue
« on: September 21, 2012, 02:52:38 AM »
Hi Guys

Having strange problem since yesterday. I have two WLAN controllers 2380 and 2382 and they are on V7.0.13 (2380)  and V7.1.2(2382). Since clients upgraded their apple iphone mobile phones to IOS6 whenever they are connecting to the wireless controllers APs, they get redirected to the captive portal web page in the Safari and when they type in username and password   and click on login nothing happens.

Have you guys encountered this before and is there any workaround known?

New TLS settings in iOS6 have broken a whole lot of programs here!

We are still testing the changes.  I don't know yet what's needed.

Both Apple and the Portal vendor are at odds over this.  In the middle is an SSL accelerator box - it appears that's what needs the change to be made on.

The first round was with iOS4 to 5, TLSv1 was dropped.  Now I think TLSv1.1 was dropped, though I don't have definitive confirmation of that.  Apple isn't talking... (http://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/)

HI Tankll,

Thanks so much. Really appreciate your reply. so just to confirm that it is actually affecting many sites with WLAN 2300 series switches with the IOS6? I was thinking of upgrading to V7.3.0 from V7.0.13 (WLAN 2380) but do you agree that it might not be of any help? Is there any forum or chain discussion i can be a part of keep myself updated with this problem

Cheers

I don't know of any blog/forum discussing this, but check your portal and see what the TLS settings are.  It might be readily available in the SSL security configuration.
Is the portal on the 2380 in your environment?  It's not in ours.

Hi,

Raised a job with Avaya which got escalated to the Juniper engineering team. The resolution is to ensure that you have CA root security certificates installed on the WLAN controller or some kind of purchaed certificate instead of the self signed certificate. It seems to work fine then.

Cheers

Huh? I thought the Wireless LAN equipment was manufactured by Avaya, or is this the old Trapeze model?

Hi

This is the old WLAN 2300 series model. Have you recently come across such an issue since the release of IOS6?

Cheers

We had an issue on Monday morning with IOS6 users reporting issues connecting to our public WiFi hotspot.

The wireless LAN is completely open with no authentication or encryption. We perform an HTTP redirect and require the user to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) after which we grant them access via HTTP, HTTPS, RDP, SSH and ICA (CITRIX).

Apparently there was an issue with a web link run by Apple that was down and was causing IOS6 devices to mistakenly thing the network wasn't available.

The problem cleared on it's own by Monday afternoon with no changes by us. Go Apple!

Hi

Can you please tell me if you guys have been using the WLAN 2380/2382 with self signed certificates?

Cheers

Because I can not post external link, just quote it from Avaya.

Details

WSS portal page does not work on Apple devices running IOS ver. 6
Problem Clarification

When Apple devices that are loaded with IOS ver. 6  login via web portal, after they press 'submit' the screen doesn't change and the users are not granted access to the network.

When Google Chrome is used instead of Safari, the users are able to login via web portal, this issue looks to point to the Safari Operating System.
Cause

The new IOS 6 running the Safari Operating System has an issue when SSL is set to partial.

Self-signed certificates use the partial SSL setting.

Solution

Install a 3rd party vendor CA certificate

Install the Google Chrome application and use instead of the Safari Operating System
