Wing5.8.0/5.8.2 + AP7532 speed issues
« on: February 01, 2016, 11:31:49 AM »
Hi everyone.
We have 2*RFS6000 (active/standby), 80 AP7532  and 2 Gbit/ps internet chanel.

The issue is a low speed for client. The top speed with 1 client (Dlink DWA-182 or Mac Book Pro) is lower than 350-400 Mbit/ps. With a Meraki AP34 we have over 700-800 Mbit at same condition (same place, same clients, 80 Mhz chanel).

How i can make Motorola to get a speed over 500 Mbit?
Is there special settings to activate 802.11ac? cause it seems to be 802.11an
p.s. wired speed test show us 800+ Mbit internet connection
p.p.s. sorry for my bad english

What channel did you select on the radio?
Can you paste a copy of your RFS6000 config here?

Hmmmm try explicitly setting the channel widths to 80MHz
in smart rf policy and also on WLAN and also on radio2

as i know, channel width is inherited from RF.
i canít see any settings of channel width in Wlan profile and AP-profile on Radio.

Do you have any successfully implementation of wireless speed 500+ Mbit on WinG?

you have default smartrf channel-width, which for 5GHz means 40Mhz.

set it to "auto" or 80Mhz as McNulty said if you want to test throughput. Also highly sensitive smartrf config that you have doesn't help with getting max numbers, as radios are going off-channel to check the environment way more frequently. Meraki's autoRF is ..limited to say it politely, and doesnt do much.

Also your client is 2x2:2 80Mhz capable, which means max data-rate that you can get is 866.7Mbps. From this number you can assume 60 max 70% of real throughput. 60 being TCP, 70 being UDP. I dont believe you actually saw 700-800 with the same client, this is not possible in theory due to management traffic overhead.

and of course running 80Mhz channels in real-life deployments is a questionable idea, unless you have 1 AP per location

thanks for your reply.
in the attachment there is current config for stability.

We made synthetic tests with artificial environment Ė far from any other wifi signals in a Gym. There we have used one client in a one time with one AP powered on. The channel width was statically  configured for different tests 20/40/80 MHz, for measurement we have used a laptop with iperf ver.2 and ver.3.
With a UDP iperf server and 80 MHz we get max 808 and average 650-700 Mbit for Dlink DWA-182 for  Meraki MR34.
Also now in real installation  with 40 MHz on this config we have not more that  250-270 Mbit (up or down) with a mac book pro (mid 15). With 80 MHz we get the same 250-300 downlink and 120-150 uplink. This test also were made for a single client (Mac Book Pro) for a single Moto AP 7532.

I will change RF-sensitivity from aggressive.

Also now at my home with rather clean air on 5 Ghz. I have Dlink DWA-182, 2 *AP7532 and RFS6000 also. I can configure it as an individual AP or AP with controller. Can you give me some configuration for upload on AP? Or you think that 250-300 Mbit is quite a lot for AC 867 format?

Thanks!

p.s. 867*0.6=520 867*0.7= 606 f hope to see the real iperf speed like 450+++   and also i think, that the real speed can be 0.7-0.8 from maximum = 690 for example

Old now, there's a trade-off here that it sounds like you don't fully understand. If you only have a handful of devices, getting high numbers per device is easy. But as you want to support more active devices you need to make some compromises on single-device speed.

The Meraki stuff is just AWESOME for small device counts per radio (lower density). The management tools are unparalleled. But Zebra/Motorola will knock Meraki out of the park for supporting more active users per area. And if you really want to, you can configure the Zebra stuff to act more like Meraki for lower densities as well. It's just the defaults are set to make sure the system at least works for everyone.

Thanks for your reply.

I am in contact with Moto/Zebra regiolan representative. Now trying to make some tests also with different regional settings in our lab topologee. I agree with You about high density - there is a way to get a lot of AP with 20-40 clients at each radio, but if i get "single client for single radio" with the same perfomance at 40 MHz (2 Stream) N-draft and the same 80 Mhz (2 Stream) AC-draft.... ...this is unacceptable.

There is also Asus RT-5300 in our lab - it has perfect @auto setting = automaticali ballanced client for 2?4 5 and the second 5..  For 10-15 cliens on just one Asus we can get more summary perfomance, than at two Moto/Zebra AP-7532..

wing 5.8.0 wing 5.8.2
there is one more issue about wired captive portal - i cant bring it to work with external radius and external captive portal.....
