WiNG 5.8 Features and Comments
« on: August 18, 2015, 01:35:40 AM »
List any comments you have about WiNG 5.8 here

I'll start, as I've just been glancing at the release notes.

Captive Portal is much better now (actually since 5.7) and the web pages it produces are much more modern, and they auto scale to relevant device screensize. Also, you can preview the webpages from the configuration page. There is also something about Email/Mobile/Social login, but no clear info is provided yet how this is implemented.

Client Bridge Mode: Now AP6562 and AP6522 can be configured as client bridges! Official replacement for CB3000 devices? This is great for connecting items such as IP cameras which don't have integrated Wi-Fi or need to communicate over long distances. The client bridge can only be set on Radio2. The AP in this mode is still controller-manageable. I can't tell if Radio1 can still be used to service clients or not, as all the examples given show Radio1 being shutdown.

AVC (Application Visibility and Control): I haven't played with this yet, but it looks like we can now see top applications being used etc. This has been around in Cisco WLC for a while, so I'm glad to see it in WiNG now. Possibly only on AP75xx and NX controller, can anyone confirm?

Manage EX switches from NX- or VX- controller. Convenient

NSight - fancy new analytics - but only available on NX9xxx or VX9000 ???
