Use AP6511 with WiNG Express
« on: June 09, 2015, 10:34:29 PM »
I'm looking at a WiNG Express solution, and I have a very small number of older AP6511 (full edition, not the express) APs that I'd like to incorporate with the new deployment. It is possible to either use these as-is with a WiNG Express controller, can I do a firmware "downgrade" to the AP6511E firmware to make it work, or am I out of luck using them on an Express controller?

Bad luck, Express can only work with Express, at least according to Zebra.

If you find a way around this then I'm sure many forum users would appreciate if you shared.

For the record...

It looks like the reverse is true. I am working with some demo equipment that has the full WiNG, and it was able to adopt the Express APs. In fact, I wasn't even trying for this, but once I had both on the network at the same time the controller just adopted the AP. It was a nice surprise for me.

This opens the door for using the more full-featured controller along-side the lower-cost APs, though I'll need to test to make sure the APs themselves support the features I want.
