RFS4010 Will Not Connect to Internet
« on: December 03, 2013, 01:59:08 AM »
Hello,

I have recently inherited an RFS4010 with 3 AP650s.  All I am trying to do is connect to the internet VIA my internal firewall.  I'm doing DHCP for the address from the firewall and static IP on the AP ports.  When I try to connect to the internet, nothing.  I can ping to 10.1.1.1 and to the uplink port 192.168.0.104 but not out to the firewall port 192.168.0.1.  I added a static route of 0.0.0.0/0 192.168.0.1 and still nothing.  I'm new to this model of Motorola so I seem to be missing something very basic, but what is it?  Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks, Brian

hi,

I don't understand why you want to nat everything on your RFS, that's not its role.

I think you should simply make your wireless a transparent network in your case for a small deployment, that means the modified things as folowing :

no access-list 100 permit ip 192.168.0.0/24
interface up1
 switchport access vlan 1
interface vlan1
 ip address dhcp
no interface vlan2100
no ip dhcp pool Default
no service dhcp

Did you make all this configuration yourself ? it seems quite complicated (including even rtls). I would recommand before deploying, to upgrade to Wing 5.5 and make a clean conf from scratch :)

This is not my config.   All I did was reset to factory defaults and assign the interfaces with IP addresses.  I will reset again and see what happens.   I have been trying to contact Motorola to get the upgrade but I have not been successful in finding the right department.

you won't get any upgrade from them unless you buy a support contract from them (a basic once, probably less than 200 box per year).

strange config for a factory default. Anyway, I suggest you to forget about nat and all that, just keep it as a simple bridge, it will work like a charm :)

Thanks for the advice, I just wanted to talk with someone at Motorola to get an idea of the maintenance options.  The local resellers don't have much information and don't sell a lot of the product so they haven't been much help.  I did see someone on Amazon selling a software protection part number "Motorola SWS-RFS4010-10 1YR SOFTWARE SUPPORT RFS-4000", I assume this would cover the upgrade.

Thanks again for your help.

I have attached the running config from a fresh reset, (running-config start.txt) no changes.  Then another config with a couple of changes.  Still can't make it outside of the switch to the Internet.  Any pointers would be great.

Again, thanks.

hi,

did you follow the commands I provided ? your conf is pretty much still the same, still nat and different vlans. you don't need all these. if you're not confortable with networking and vlans, you should better let a professionnal doing that maybe ?

about your support contract, yes that's the good ref, you will need to give them you s/n and it will work with https://portal.motorolasolutions.com/Support/US-EN (all online). once your s/n has entitelement to support, you can contact them with this entitlement

Romain,  I was able to configure the RFS as you suggested and it worked great.  The only question is why the default config assigns two VLANS, etc.  Thanks again for your help.
