Problem with WS5100 that disconnects users
« on: September 04, 2016, 06:04:18 AM »
Hi to all,

I am managing a hotel installation of a WS5100 (18 license ports)

The initial installation was with 12 access ports for 71 rooms.
There was a new extension with 3 more access ports to service 12 NEW rooms.

Recently there has been a problem. The system keeps disconnecting some users !!!

Do you think it could be because the demand for usage has increased and the WS5100 cannot cope anymore?

How can I check if it is operating at peak capacity ???

Dear md355,

I'm very newbie, but...
if you open the dashboard in the web management, you can see something? For example huge CPU/Memory utilizazion?

Thanks for the reply !!
I checked the CPU utilization and it is below 15%
Also I checked memory usage and it is below 30%
Therefore, I cannot understand what the problem is...
For now it seems to be OK
Next time the users start losing connection, I will check again CPU utilization to see what is happening...
Right now the Internet Router is doing DHCP (it is a very powerful router, so I doubt it is the problem)
But if the problem persists, maybe I disable DHCP from the router, and activate DHCP on WS5100...
Maybe that is the solution...

hm...

The DHCP is not the problem in my opinion. If the user already have a dhcp for 2 hours, before his address leased, the client tries the renewal minimum 3 times (at 50%, at 75 or 90%, and at the expires). If you are a powerful router, i think not the dhcp is your problem/weakness.
Soooo... if you are configure a syslog server, (for ws5100, and for your router) in logs you can see any interesting entry?
If you not have a syslog server: I use tftp32 for logging. You can disable the dhcp/dns/tftp features in the program settings.

I think you are right...
What happens probably has nothing to do with DHCP
The SSID disappears
And when it appears and I try to reconnect to the SSID, sometimes if will say on the iPhone connection failed..
Once it even requested for the password again..
Very strange...
My next guess is the switch... It is a Linksys/Cisco managed switch... Good quality switch !! Never had problems !

You must monitor the switch also :)
Or simply: You added 3 AP, the problems started. If you remove the 3 new AP the problem still remaining? If not, add 1 new AP, and test again. The other solution: plug into a differet switch, or different ports.
